DINNER & A MOVIE

PAST EVENTS

7/16:7/2: LA GRAINE ET LE MULET

(Abdellatife Kechiche, 2008) CousCous and collusion drive this brilliant, award-winning film about one immigrant family’s pursuit of the French dream. The elegant, grizzled Habib Boufares plays Slimane, the accidental patriarch of an extended Tunisian family in the port town of Marseilles.  Even as he tries patiently to weave his cantankerous, but soulful, relations together in pursuit of his dream—a Cous Cous restaurant on a boat—the thread itself unravels with secrets, jealousies, and the messiness of lives lived with passion.

On the Menu: Moroccan CousCous w/Fresh Fish Tagine

8/6: TAMPOPO

Come watch a classic, with this Japanese Noodle Western about the trials and joys of creating the perfect bowl of Ramen.  Tampopo (Japanese for "Dandelion") is a middle-aged single mother and owner of a lackluster noodle shop in the decrepit industrial tidal pools of outer Tokyo.  When Cowboy Truck-Driver Goro shows up, He sees a chance to play master to Tampopo’s willing acolyte, schooling her in the esoteric arts of fine noodle making.   Meanwhile, Koji Yakusho’s white-suited yakuza finds other, more sensual, uses of food—You’ll never see an egg yolk in the same light!

On the Menu: Momofuku Tokyo-Style Ramen

Saturdays, 7:30pm                       Movie + Food: $10 Suggested          Movie only: $5 Suggested

This summer, we’re serving up something special at the DAC: Three films that feature food as their bread and butter.  But wait! For a full, multi-sensory experience, we’ll be serving up those films with a helping of Home-Cooked Cinematic Sustenance.  Join us for dinner (or dessert) and a movie downstairs at the DAC as we screen your supper.  As always, BYOB—    or W!  Or even G ,V, or T.  Don't forget lemons.
