The ONE ACT PLAYS produced annually at the DENMARK ARTS CENTER have become known in the area for their superior quality. With his many years of experience in radio, film, television and broadcast journalism, Director Ralph Morse lends his expertise as actor, director, and teacher to the productions every summer. It is the company's effort to promote and recover more of the culturally entertaining masterpieces that our period has lost to the sweeping, inescapable onslaughts of television, and to the in-roads of techno-electronic wizardry. Past productions include the riches of Moliere (Tartuffe), Sheridan (School for Scandal), Chekhov (Marriage Proposal, and The Bear), to the more contemporary plays of Thorton Wilder (Skin of Our Teeth), Neil Simon (California Suite, Plaza Suite, Barefoot in the Park), Bernard Slade (Same Time Next Year), as well as selected original scripts. | ![]() |

MAINESTAGE READERS THEATRE at the Denmark Arts Center brings literature to life, gives it special dramatic meaning, and makes it more accessible to an audience. In performance, actors read from scripts and use facial expression, body language, and vocal expression to complete the theatrical experience. Since the early 90's, Mainestage Readers Theatre casts have been presenting performances in Readers Theatre style. Typically, these shows are a collection of poems, stories, letters, fables, drama excerpts, and songs with a central theme, put together and directed by Penny Morris and Brian Grennan. All of our cast and crew are volunteers, who work very intensely for 2-3 weeks to put on an entertaining and humorous show perfect for summer audiences. We always need volunteer help, both on stage and off! If you are interested, get in touch with the Arts Center. |
