MAKE A CHILDREN'S BOOK, DUMMY!

Have you ever wanted to write your own book and illustrate it?  Well, here is your chance! Come join Denmark’s own award-winning children’s author Donna Seim, and illustrator Susan Spellman as they take you through the basic stages of writing a story and making a “book dummy.” You don’ t have to be an artist, you can use stick figures if you like!  At the end of the workshop everyone will have made a rough draft of a dummy book. 

INTRODUCTION TO BELLY DANCING

Come shake that money-maker with Portland’s belly dancing queen, Rosa Noreen (Voted Portland’s Best Belly Dancer four years running!). Rosa will teach you the basics, delving into movement vocabulary, combinations & musicality, as well as introducing finger cymbals and rhythms used in Middle Eastern music.  VERY IMPORTANT: Wear loose fitting yoga or exercise clothing.  Showing off your belly is encouraged!!

SIMPLE  BLOCK PRINTING

Saturday, August 6                    10-2pm, $10-15 Suggested

Join iconic New England artist—and Caldecott Award Winner!—Mary Azarian for a one-day workshop in cutting and printing simple woodblock prints.  Participants will leave with their own print, and the skills to make more prints at home. 

School's Out Forever!  But that doesn't mean your mind has to go to pot.  Come join us at the DAC for artist-led workshops this summer, and learn something new.

Workshops are offered on a suggested donation basis, with nobody turned away for lack of funds.  All materials are provided on site. If you wish to attend, you need simply show up.
